Caverna by Uwe Rosenberg presents a strategic experience where players assume the role of a leader of a dwarf tribe residing within a small cavern. The gameplay revolves around developing and managing various aspects of the tribe’s settlement.

Players are tasked with cultivating the forest in front of their cavern and excavating deeper into the mountain to expand their territory. Constructing and furnishing rooms within the caverns allows for the accommodation of new tribe members and the creation of various goods from available resources. Deeper exploration reveals fountains, ore deposits, and gemstone mines, providing opportunities to mine resources that can be used to craft weapons or undertake adventures, introducing a novel mechanic where resource extraction directly enables exploration rather than solely serving as economic activities.

Beyond the cavern, players can clear forests, develop fields, erect fences around pastures, and cultivate crops or breed animals—activities aimed at increasing the tribe’s wealth and prosperity.
